4:05 PM - 4:45 PM OXFORD STYLE DEBATE Smart Manufacturing will make human jobs obsolete - FOR & AGAINST

Stefan Zippel, Senior MES Project Manager, Umicore Edith Norrant, Innovation, Technology & Sciences Director, UCB Pharma
FOR
  • Smarter machinery will eliminate the need for skilled workers on the factory floor
  • The move towards more efficient working will mean that smart robotics in manufacturing will be a better choice for an organisation than expensive wages for workers
AGAINST
  • Innovation in this area means that the needs of manufacturing organisations are changing, but there is still space for humans in different areas
  • Training and development will create new jobs in new areas, and not just reduce the need for humans throughout manufacturing
